Platinum Games is launching an original game with the working title Project G.G. This will be the third game in their heroic trilogy. The first was Viewtiful Joe, the second was Wonderful 101, and now this new original title is keeping us on our toes. The game will be published by Platinum itself.
They’ve released a trailer where it looks like a human transforms into some sort of suicidal robot to attack a giant monster that has invaded the world. The short teaser definitely made us feel like Godzilla. Try it!
Hey, guys. Hideki Kamiya, chief designer of PlatinumGames, is here.
I am honored to finally announce a new and original PlatinumGames project today. Since founding this company fourteen years ago, we have been working on the dream of developing and releasing a game based on Platinum’s intellectual property. We finally made it to the starting line.
What’s the difference between this new title and what we’ve done before? Let me explain a bit, because I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a big step for PlatinumGames!
Over the course of our history we have developed a variety of games, sometimes based on existing titles like NieR:Automata, sometimes with completely original stories like Bayonetta and ASTRAL CHAIN. Our work has found a core of passionate fans who trust us to deliver quality action games.
But PlatinumGames has only been a developer so far. That is, we play games, and that’s it. All our publications up to the point of being produced under contract, with the cooperation and funding of the publishers who distribute them.
Of course, we are all very grateful to Platinum for the relationships we have built with you in the games we have made so far. But ultimately all these games are owned by the publishers. All decisions relating to the advertising of these games, the use of their content, etc. are the sole responsibility of the publisher.
As a creator, it’s hard not to think about my games as children. After all, it takes a lot of work to get them up and also a lot of love. But once they are exhausted, the decision to do so rests entirely with me. So, for example, no matter how many times I’m told… They should make a sequel to this game, otherwise I’d love to check it out on this console, I can’t help it.
Which brings us to projecting G.G.. (which, by the way, is only a working title). Project G.G. is different. Unlike all the other games we’ve made so far, this will be a 100% platinum game. From set and characters to game design, story and gameplay, PlatinumGames has it all under control.
Of course, that has its drawbacks. We are going to take on new risks that we haven’t had to take before as a contract developer. Having total control over the G.G. IP project not only gives us a lot of freedom, but also a lot of responsibility. However, I think we can take this sense of responsibility and turn it into motivation to make the G.G. project the best possible game.
Like I said, with Project G.G., we’ll get started. It’s a long way to the finish line. But I know I’m looking forward to the race! I hope you’ll cheer us up.
And if you’re interested in joining us at Platinum as we launch this new business, I hope you’ll take a look at our jobs page and see if there’s an opening that’s right for you.
On behalf of the G.G. project team and all of PlatinumGames, we thank you for your support!
